SmartCity Malta Renews its Sponsorship for the 18th Malta Journalism Awards

Malta, June 11, 2008

SmartCity Malta, the self-sustained township for knowledge-based companies being developed by SmartCity in partnership with the Government of Malta, renewed its sponsorship for the e-Journalism Award category of the 18th Malta Journalism Awards, organised by the Institute of Maltese Journalists (IM).

Mr Fareed Abdulrahman, SmartCity Chief Executive Officer and acting Chief Executive Officer of SmartCity Malta, presenting the sponsorship cheque to Mr Malcolm J Naudi and Mr Roderick J Agius, Chairman of the Institute of Maltese Journalists and Malta Journalism Awards Organiser respectively.

The e-Journalism Award recognises the particularly important role of Maltese news-based websites, which have become an important and essential source of information for Maltese citizens, whether they are living in Malta, permanently residing in another country, or temporarily abroad.

SmartCity Chief Executive Officer and acting Chief Executive Officer of SmartCity Malta and SmartCity Kochi, Mr Fareed Abdulrahman, said “We have renewed the sponsorship of the e-Journalism Award as we believe that this forms part of SmartCity Malta’s commitment to encourage and contribute towards the development of talent in knowledge-based sectors. As SmartCity Malta seeks to establish itself as a knowledge-based industry destination for the Mediterranean region, we recognise that talent is the primary resource in this knowledge-based industry, particularly in the ICT and media sectors.”

Commenting on the renewal of the sponsorship, IM Chairman Malcolm J. Naudi said, “We applaud the vision and the commitment of SmartCity Malta in supporting an area of the media in Malta which is showing great promise. As a project that will promote hi-tech development in Malta and the rest of the Mediterranean, we too see many areas in common and wish to work together for mutual benefit.”

The e-journalism category in the Malta Journalism Awards rewards those e-journalists in Malta who strive harder to deliver correct information to an ever increasing number of viewers.
